I’m not as obsessed with baby clothes as I thought I would be. There are a few I really like and I’m considering making something out of them once they’re outgrown. Interestingly enough, the ones I love most are the cheapest ones, like the quilted woodland print from Uniqlo. Of course, in my head I have this ideal expanse of free time that allows me to make little stuffed toy keepsakes of outgrown baby clothes but a) we might have another baby someday so why damage them? and b) when will I ever have enough time that making little keepsakes out of outgrown baby clothes even nears the top of my priority list?
Also when I was still pregnant I used to stroll around the neighborhood enjoying the peace and quiet. Now that I have a four month old who enjoys sleeping in the carrier, I loathe every scooter, coughing old man and squeaky bicycle that comes my way. And there are many of each of those.
Well, it’s been a while, but I’m back. I’ve been drawing, but things happened in life that got in the way (see above). I have a new inspiration now and it’s nice to have a convenient model. I will be trying to post more often than before – at least sometimes. I have some drawings I’ve saved of Baby so I’ll post those as I find the time and the words to go along with them.
Actually this spread is from a pocket Moleskine that I have. After I drew these I decided to buy a sketchbook specifically and only for baby drawings. It’s a bigger one, but still a Moleskine, although seeing how the price of those keeps jumping up, I’m open to recommendations for sketchbooks going forward.
As for writing, well, I’m still not great at it. And this subject is a deeply personal one (baby, family) and I’m not comfortable putting that out in public on a blog, even if no one reads the blog. But I don’t want to post these without anything, either.
After I draw and scan, I usually write some notes to the baby. Those are for her to read and I guess my husband too. I don’t think I’ll include those here.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy them.
Note that I am practicing and not drawing these for anyone else. I told myself I wouldn’t rip out any pages even if I hate them… and I still haven’t, even though I promise you I have been sorely tempted already.
